Why Are eBay Templates So Important?

Again, why are templates so important?

Why is it imperative that you spend sufficient amount of effort on creating a good (not fancy) eBay auction template?

The answer is simple. In an online store such as eBay, all your buyers will be seeing will be your product on your eBay template.

Your eBay template represents your store!

Look at the offline world, shop owners go into great measure renovating their stores, decorating them in theme with their products, and also go into the extend of arranging their products by consulting experts!

In the online world, it is not different, your storefront is what your potential buyers will see first. Your storefront IS a virtual property.

So, we do urge you to check out some of the amazing sources of free eBay templates that you can use immediately.

Remember, templates will define your store look, template will determine whether you sell your product or not.

That is why eBay templates are so sought after. However, too many eBayers take template design too likely.

If you want to make real money on eBay, you have to take your eBay business seriously.

Simply designing a template for use isn't gonna cut it!

Especially so for eBay template designs, there are certain items and elements which are critical to your eBay success.

Check out our next section which goes through all these eBay template items which you MUST have on your template.

EBay Template Elements

Auctions templates should consist of the following elements: a good graphic header, a background color or design, a specification table (to input values for each product), and pre-selected slots for pictures.

For your eBay template, make sure your header is in compliance with the overall theme of your online store.

If you are selling consumer electronics, get a header that has pictures of MP3 players and such.

Do not use non compliant header graphics which will dilute your theme and weaken your standing among your competition.

There are various graphics online which are free to use and modify.

We urge to simply find some of these header graphics and use them for your eBay store template. Your headers need not be fancy, keep it simple and direct to the point.

Keep your background color and design simple and plain.

Refrain from using garish colors, colors that shout, or colors that clashes. Over fanciful background color and design will take away the focus of your product, which is supposed to be the forefront of your potential buyers attention.

Take a look at some other eBay sellers store design and you will get an idea of how to design your very own eBay storefront template.

This is where you will list your eBay products. It is always recommended that you use tables in order for your storefront to look more organized, neat and professional.

Everyone knows that pictures speaks a thousand words.

And in the online business, this saying is taken very seriously.

A great product with a lousy product picture will make it look much less attractive!

Regardless of whether the MP3 players you are selling are all the same as your competitor, when the buyer decides to buy, the buyer would almost certainly buy from the seller which shows a better picture!

This is why it is always recommended that you get professionally taken pictures of your product. Most suppliers would have a list of professionally taken pictures for you to use.

Putting your home-taken picture of the actual product will simply not cut it. Remember, the picture will make or break a sale!

Designing Your Own eBay Template

If you've never created a basic HTML template before, there are four ways in which you can go about this:

you can code the HTML yourself in an editor, you can use a what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editor, you can open an eBay store, which will help you piece together a store without using code, or you could simply download free eBay templates online and proceed to modify them.

If you decide to code the HTML yourself, but do not have any experience, you will want to check out the following free tutorial: http://www.w3schools.com/html/.

As little as five hours of concentrated effort and testing would yield a good enough understanding of HTML to allow you to code good-looking templates!

Once you have a rough idea of using a HTML editor fairly well, next, download some free eBay templates, modify them to your liking and you will have a great eBay Template all ready to be used!

As you work with any HTML tutorial, you will want to constantly test your understanding by inputting data into a free HTML editor, such as Geocities.

You can open up an account at the following URL: http://geocities.yahoo.com/.

Additionally, when you get to hosting pictures for your auctions, you can also host them for free from Geocities, which will save you a considerable amount of money in fees.

Geocities is practically a web based hosting for you test site which is free to use.

The only thing is that your homepage on Geocities will have some advertisements.

But this is all right because you will not be selling items here, just testing your HTML skills.

If you decide to use a WYSIWYG editor, you can find a number of free pieces of open source software at the following address:

Even if you do decide to code your own HTML, having one of these WYSIWYG programs could help you to create cleaner code and code for more complex items in your template.

WYSIWYG editors are also extremely easy to use.

After all, WYSIWYG stands for What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get.

Alternatively, you can also download Dreamweaver and use it for a free trial period of 30 days!

30 days is more than enough time for you to learn how to use it and create your very own eBay auction template.

If you decide to open an eBay store (which we will talk more about later), eBay will give you a number of free templates, graphic headers, and layout styles that you can use for your own store; however, for an entry-level store, you will have to pay $16 per month.

However, you do not need to pay for this, just take a look at the designs, look at the Power Seller template, and come up with your own idea on how you want your storefront to look like.

In fact, most eBay sellers do not use the eBay templates and would rather design their own, after all, simple designs works best.

If you decide to purchase a template from eBay to use for your auctions, you will have to pay a flat rate per auction.

The rate, while relatively inexpensive, is an additional fee for your business.

Also, the templates eBay allows you to purchase cannot be highly-customized, which is important if you want to set yourself apart from other businesses.

So, these are the few options on where you can get your eBay templates, if you are pressed for time, and you have more money than time, then perhaps you can go for the option of purchasing eBay templates directly.

Regardless of which option you choose, the last step should always be asking for criticism.

If you post regularly on an Internet business or marketing forum, you could ask for criticism there from other eBayers.

If not, you can simply ask a friend or family member who you know will be honest with you. From our experience, a simple post in the eBay forum will get you a host of replies!

After all, the eBayers forum was set up to help and assist each other.

Now that you've determined a theme and have created templates for your auctions, the next step is to create a working business model, which we discussed briefly in the theme section.
